daltile® Sonterra Collection. Shown: Scarlet Iridescent 1 x 1 mosaic with glass mosaics in Tobacco and Ivory 3/4 x 3/4 Random Blend. Columns feature Villa Valleta in Mojave Sunset 12 x 18 Field Tile and Napa Gold 18 x 18 Field Tile on floor.

The Sonterra Collection from daltile® is proof that beauty not only lies in the eye of the beholder, it also fits in the palm of your hand. These glass mosaic tiles come in a unique spectrum of colors. Some have an iridescent quality that makes them sparkle and shimmer like a fine gemstone, while others are melted and blended to create opalized glass. Both types create an air of refinement when used to cover walls, create patterns or accent other luxurious tiles.  Visit our showroom or www.heritage-floors.net to beautify any room in your home.

Does Hardwood Floor Really Expand in Summer and Contract in Winter?

Shown: Anderson Flooring, Bryson Strip Collection, Color: Gunstock, 3.25 width shown

Seasonal changes bring temperature changes and believe it or not, it can affect your hardwood flooring.  The changes in weather can create expansion and contraction of wood, but that’s perfectly normal. Wood is a natural constituent that seeks to conform to its surroundings.

Hardwoods that are created for use in home decorating are carefully manufactured with the above in mind.  It’s perfectly normal for hardwood to take on or give off moisture with fluctuation in relative humidity.

Here’s how it works:  Hardwoods that are solid will expand in exceptionally warm and humid air when moisture from the humidity is absorbed. Similarly, when the air is significantly cooler and drier, the wood will release moisture and contract.

This process is completely natural. Hardwood manufacturers design their products to accommodate these changes.
